Contract signed for future-ready fish feed vessel

The vessels design have been given the designation NSD 75CC

Biomar’s ambitious newbuild tender has been awarded to The Norwegian Ship design Company

with a concept developed in close collaboration with Egil Ulvan Rederi.

The new vessel, NSD 75CC, has been designed with energy efficiency as a key priority – from hull design and propulsion systems to operations at fish farms and in port. This aligns closely with BioMar’s ambition to continuously improve resource and energy efficiency throughout its value chain.

The vessel will feature a hybrid propulsion solution combining electric and direct diesel-mechanical propulsion, supported by a large battery package. This provides flexible and energy-efficient operation under varying conditions. The dynamic positioning system has also been selected with a focus on low energy consumption and reduced noise levels – particularly important when operating close to fish cages.

At approximately 70 metres in length and with a deadweight capacity of around 4,000 tonnes, the vessel has been designed for efficient cargo handling, featuring a side port, elevators, a long-reach unloading boom and a 120-tonne heavy-lift crane.

The shipbuilder is Jiangsu SOHO Marine Heavy Industry.

The vessel will be built at Jiangsu SOHO Marine Heavy Industry in China, a shipyard that has impressed us with its strong technical expertise and positive, solution-oriented approach.

The contract signing ceremony was held at Soho Shipyards office in China.

At 70 metres in length and approximately 4,000 DWT, the fish feed vessel is designed with a hull and propulsion solution optimised for high energy efficiency.

Successful partnership

Our managing Director Gjermund Johannessen is very pleased that this important contract has been secured together with Egil Ulvan Rederi;

“We greatly value the close and long-standing cooperation with Egil Ulvan Rederi. Key people in our companies have been working together since before 2000, resulting in the successful delivery of a double-digit number of vessels. We know each other well, have strong mutual trust and share the ambition of continuously exploring new opportunities. The close collaboration between shipowner and designer allows us to develop innovative solutions while building on decades of experience and expertise. With this contract, we now have three vessels under construction at SOHO Shipyard – another strong confirmation of the successful partnership we have built over time.”

We are proud to congratulate our valued partners at Egil Ulvan Rederi, BioMar and SOHO Marine on the signed contract and look forward to continued close cooperation throughout the project.

The vessel is equipped with a side port, elevators and a long-reach unloading boom, including a 120-tonne heavy-lift crane
