Contract signing for new electric ferry

Great joy in the office this week as Technical Director Arvid Holsen could ring the bell and announce that a contract has been signed for the construction of yet another electric ferry developed in collaboration with Torghatten Nord!

After working on this project with Torghatten Nord for a long time, it is very gratifying that the shipyard now has been chosen, and construction can begin at Remontowa Shipyard SA in Poland.

The environmentally friendly ferry, with the designer’s mark NSD 50CFe, will have a capacity for 50 vehicles and 149 passengers, and will operate on the Stornes – Bjørnerå route in the Northern part of Norway as soon as the ferry is delivered from the shipyard. The design emphasizes the implementation of a range of innovative low-emission solutions and systems to reduce energy consumption as much as possible. The ferry, contributing to Torghatten Nord's transition to emission-free operation, will normally operate fully electrical with charging through the onshore power grid. In addition, the ferry will be equipped with diesel generators as a backup solution.

We are proud to once again being part of the development and design of Torghatten Nord's zero-emission projects, which shows that we are securing our position as the preferred engineering partner in the green shift. The trust that Torghatten Nord has in our company and our forward-looking designs means a lot to us, and all credit to both them and the entire Torghatten Group for their progressive commitment to green fleet renewal! This project shows that they once again take the green shift seriously.

Congratulations to all involved parties, and we look forward to collaborating with Torghatten Nord and Remontowa Shipbuilding SA throughout the construction period.
